We have trouble in paradise! Out of the 14 tomato plants we have which were grown from seeds, these few show signs of sickness. After much research I have narrowed it down to three different diseases that it could be..... Can you identify what each plant might have?

After a failed attempt at finding straw to grow in, I decided that earthboxes were the way to go for us. Beside the voles and moles will not get to the plants using this box. Off to the big blue store I went and got myself a pvc pipe, pipe cutter and a tote.
Here is what you'll need:

I know many of you are starting your summer garden and what is better than free stuff?! We had planned on growing several plants of each type of pumpkin and melon but the area will not be ready for planting until next year. I will only be able to plant 1-2 per type in an Earthbox and will have extra seeds (major sad face) but I'm sure we'll be able to plant in the pumpkin patch next year.

Being back in Georgia is wonderful but I don't recall having so many hot days. I'm learning very fast that our short crop season here in the deepest part of Georgia is SHORT. One of my Chinese cabbage have bolted before forming (major sad face) and I suspect that a couple of my bok choy might be bolting, luckily I can make stir fry out of the bok choy. It's been over three weeks... Three weeks of hard work, tears and joy. I had to take time for myself and my family these weeks, I'm sure you understand. Last week of Feb my father died of an EVIL disease called cancer. Over the past 10 years I have lost 4 very special parental figures to cancer... prostate, lung and colon cancer.
It was only until I found out my father had cancer that I took Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583441477155088416.post-28443055016337637782013-02-18T06:37:00.000-08:002013-02-18T06:37:30.700-08:00Peanut Butter Energy Bits
Eating clean has become a very important part of our lives, although you wouldn't have guessed during my birthday this past weekend. We ended up eating at barbaritos and crap trap at the end of the night I got sick from either over eating or eating things that my body is no longer used to, I'm not sure which.
This recipe is super easy to do and everyone will be Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583441477155088416.post-73687596097874557532013-02-18T05:25:00.001-08:002013-02-18T05:25:15.409-08:00Week 7 Garden update
I haven't blogged about the garden in over a week because I was a little discouraged really. Molly, our dog ate all my tomato plants, half my peppers and all my basil.
After a few days of no gardening I decided IF I was going to meet my goal of not having to shop at the grocery store for my produce I NEEDED to get back in the game and plant more seeds. So I bit the bullet and headed to lowesUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583441477155088416.post-58610498558781474012013-02-13T06:12:00.002-08:002013-02-13T06:12:21.585-08:00Week 6 - Grocery, Couponing and Garden budget
With our new eating style I've noticed I spend a lot less scouring for deals and focusing on eating and feeding my family a whole grain/clean diet. Over the past month the hubster and I dived into juicing.
We haven't done a full cleanse but added a juicing drink as a meal supplement throughout the day. One thing is for sure, we have a higher metabolism and eat more often on this new Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583441477155088416.post-77875760445024178712013-01-31T09:22:00.000-08:002013-01-31T09:22:37.304-08:00Shopping for 2 weeks worth of food.
I figured it was best to get a jump start on grocery shopping for the next 2 weeks before pay day. Although I forgot a few things, didn't know we were out of others and couldn't find certain things in stores I was able to get 2 weeks worth of supplies for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I normally do not have the time or patience to take pictures of our meals Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583441477155088416.post-27420464691928601082013-01-30T05:24:00.000-08:002013-01-30T05:24:17.310-08:00February To Do
This month I'll be working on building the bean house, the edge garden boxes and getting a trellis made for the winter squash next month. We've come a long way on the garden fence but we've still got tons more work to do.

This week is the last slow week in gardening I'll have for some time. Feb marks the beginning of serious gardening here. This week I added some pea trellises to the garden beds. I've got about 2 more to do before I plant next week. I worked in some new soil to what originally was going to be the herb garden but now shall be called the artichoke garden. Okay so last weeks shopping wasn't really enough to last 2 weeks. It seems we are eating more fruits and veggies, which is a good problem to have. I should also admit that I haven't planned the meals (holds head down in shame) for this past shopping trip. Many of you have asked how I can buy groceries for a family of 5 on such a budget? We the key is a LOT of planning; meals and Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583441477155088416.post-11518473003286236632013-01-25T15:31:00.000-08:002013-01-25T15:32:13.997-08:00Bartering and Diving As a kid of a single mother there were times we had to go on wellfare and even at one point we "dumpster dived" I know..I know.. Welcome to our little garden tour. There is not much going on right now but our seedlings are starting to flourish. Since taking these pictures all the seedlings have grown more true leaves and it's leaving me to think that I should plant them outside soon.
We've got eggplants, leeks, 5 different kind of tomatoes, the kids little gardens, hot peppers, bell peppers, luffas, onionsUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583441477155088416.post-69034090755430142572013-01-21T06:52:00.000-08:002013-01-21T06:52:18.639-08:00Week 3- Grocery, Couponing and Gardening budget
This past Sunday there was (1) SS insert. If you missed getting to your news stand for some papers you can order inserts from Insert Insanity. I highly recommend them!
This week was my real grocery shopping, I buy 50/50 in veggies and fruits and plan my meals around what I buy. So this is the first "harvest"!! lol I ended up thinning some lettuce that was growing outside in the beds. I tried to weigh it but it wasn't even a .00 oz I put it in an egg salad sandwich.
So I started some English lavender and Echinacea by stratifying them and placing them in the frig.
What is Stratification?
Stratification is the process of pretreating seeds Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4583441477155088416.post-35135869641930761052013-01-17T14:23:00.000-08:002013-01-17T14:25:49.982-08:00Publix and Commi Highlights

It's gardening time!!
So I planted the lettuce and Swiss chard that was getting to leggy for my taste today. I'm hoping that the transplant shock wont get to them. I have about 4 more of these Swiss Chard seedlings. We never ate Swiss Chard before so I don't want to plant too much. Anyone try these before?

Week one and I'm already slacking on the pictures *holds head down* Last year I had a budget of $300 a month for groceries and $160 for couponing/stockpiling for a family of 5 but this year I plan on going LOWER!! the grocery budget is dropped to $200 and couponing is down to $90.

We have 7 different types of heirloom tomatoes growing in our homemade pots and reused cardboard egg cartons. Does anyone know roughly how many lbs a tomato plant produces? This year I plan on canning diced tomatoes, homemade spaghetti sauce, tomato paste (is that possible?), tomato sauce and salsa so we need some serious poundage.
